SETU Academic Partnership

South East Technological University is one of Ireland's newest and fastest-growing universities, formed from the merger of Waterford Institute of Technology and IT Carlow. Tiglin's partnership with SETU brings that academic infrastructure directly into recovery  briding the gap between education and support.

Courses are delivered on-site within Tiglin's residential and community programmes. Participants study while they are already in a structured environment, supported by people who understand what they are managing. That proximity matters. For someone in early recovery, the barrier between wanting to study and actually doing it is rarely about ability. It is about access, confidence, and not having to explain yourself to a system that wasn't built with you in mind.

SETU removes that barrier. Tiglin provides the support around it.

Long-term research into addiction recovery consistently identifies employment and education as two of the strongest predictors of sustained sobriety. It is not simply about getting a job. It is about having a reason to get up, a structure to the day, and a sense of self that isn't defined by what came before.

For many Tiglin participants, the SETU partnership is the first time an institution has told them they are capable. That message, delivered through a formal academic framework rather than encouragement alone, changes things. A certificate is evidence. Evidence that someone is worth investing in. Evidence they can use.
