Greystones Youth Café

@
Opened:
2022

Location: Coolnagreina, Trafalgar Road, Greystones, Co. Wicklow, A63K668

This service?

Greystones Youth Café is a vibrant hub right next to the marina, open to all young people 11-19yrs (5th class upwards). It’s a drop-in space designed for connection and community- a third space outside of school and home where youth can grow in the confidence of who they are.

The Youth Cafe is shaped by the voices of local youth and planned around their needs, interests and ideas. Sometimes this looks like playing a board game together, doing arts and crafts or watching a movie on the projector. Other times it looks like taking part in a workshop such as a barista training, makeup and skincare, or boxfit class. Alternatively, youth might get involved in a more regular group such as our crochet corner, STEM camps, study groups, youth-led Irish speaking meetups and music jam sessions. But ultimately, the youth cafe is simply a safe space to relax and be yourself. It's up to you how little or how much you wish to engage.

In the building, there’s two indoor levels, as well as a small outdoor garden space. Youth can enjoy air hockey table, pool table/table tennis, reading corners, switch, projector for movies, board game collection and more.

Our awesome team comprised largely of volunteers are here to welcome everyone through the doors and support our youth in any way possible. We aim to make the space safe, inviting and inclusive to all.

What happens when I walk in?

There’s absolutely no cost to coming in. All that’s required from young people when entering is signing in. For your first time, this involves getting a few extra details like an emergency contact and once that’s completed, the regular sign in is just your name. Food and drink are available to purchase for a small price including toasties, hot chocolates and canned drinks.

When can I come?

Opening times

During the summer months of July and August, we’ll be open 11am-5pm Tuesday-Friday (11-19yrs), as well our regular Friday nights 7-9pm (14yrs+).

During this time, we’ll continue offering activities such as beach cleanups, waffle days, volleyball/football tournaments, craft workshops, pizza days, movie nights, boxing and more!

We’ll also be continuing our monthly Creative Cafe event. This is a showcase-style evening for young performers seeking an opportunity to play music, share spoken word or do something in the realm of performance arts. It’s a ticketed event with a featured artist and is a great way to build experience performing in front of a supportive audience. It’s a first stage for some, and a great way to make connections in the creative community.

During exam season, we also provide a study space which includes study packs, snacks and occasional free group grind sessions. We also have laptops and a printer available to use.

Greystones Youth Café aims to be a supportive environment where young people are seen, supported, and empowered to grow. A place where they can find belonging and build confidence in who they are.

Greystones Youth Café aims to be an environment where young people are seen, supported, and empowered to grow. We’re always open to feedback (especially from youth!), so please don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you feel you have a skill to share or time to give, we’re always looking for volunteers (particularly young volunteers too!
